In May 2019 I started my Uefa A licence on the ex pro’s course at St. George’s park. On the course were some ex professional players & former apprentices from professional clubs, it was run by the FA & the PFA. It was a 2 week programme and very intense but I learnt so much about the art of coaching at a progressional level.
The main points I took away were the 4 corner model which are the Technical / Tactical, Physical, psychological & social elements of the game & how to incorporate these factors into sessions & game preparation & analysts. The importance of having a coaching identity, clear playing philosophy & methodology for the way you coach was reconfirmed again.
Once I absorbed all of that brilliant insight I then had the confidence to use my new found knowledge and apply it to my coaching for the England U21 CP & Gloucestershire university football teams. I had to complete a 24 week programme and plan, deliver & review every game & training session for the 2019-2020 season & this lead to me completed my Uefa A licence in March 2020 and being rewarded with the England U21 head coach role & my Gloucestershire University team won the university league we are in. It’s been a very rewarding & enjoyable journey so far and I would like to thank the FA, the PFA, my fellow coaches & most importantly the players for helping me to achieve a life long dream.
